Attorney
Christopher M. Rusby
Chris Rusby is the principal and managing attorney of Rusby Law. He was born in Reno and raised on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, and he has built his practice in the community he comes from.
He has worked on hundreds of client matters and has taken or defended hundreds of depositions. He has served as lead trial counsel before Nevada juries, has briefed and argued appeals in the Nevada Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and has testified before the Nevada Legislature.
Chris graduated from Sonoma State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2005. He then attended McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific, earning his Juris Doctorate in 2008. While at McGeorge he received a Witkin Award for Appellate and International Advocacy and an award for Best Appellate Brief, and on graduation he was named a member of the Traynor Honor Society.
From 2009 until 2014 he worked as an associate attorney with an insurance defense firm in Reno, representing insurance carriers and corporate clients. That work taught him to be efficient and responsive in litigation while recognizing the economic and emotional cost of resolving a dispute at trial. Between January 2013 and August 2014 he served as lead trial counsel for a large gaming corporation on its personal injury cases.
He has litigated in many different forums throughout Nevada and California, including federal courts, state courts, and small claims and justice courts.
Chris handles a wide range of matters: civil litigation, appellate law, personal injury, insurance, public entities, real estate, estate planning, probate, and business and corporate law. He has a passion for trial work and enjoys being in the courtroom, but he also works closely with businesses on their everyday legal needs — helping many through initial formation and continuing as general counsel for local companies. He likewise enjoys setting up trusts, drafting wills, and handling other estate planning work.
Most importantly, Chris works to establish long lasting relationships with his clients, built on trust and candid advice.
Outside the office, Chris is an avid outdoorsman. He spends most of his time with his family camping, hiking, and enjoying the outdoors.
